In honor of one of this Country’s most important leaders in civil rights and human rights, Niles Home for Children will observe the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. national holiday. Niles Home administration offices will be closed Monday, January 16, 2012. Administration offices will reopen for regular business at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2012.
It has been said we shape our ideas, our ideas come to fruition and then they shape us. Thanks to the generosity of First Student Transportation and four Northland area stores, Hy-Vee (64th Street & I 29), Sun Fresh (Prairie View Rd), Kmart (72nd Street & I 29) and Wal-Mart (I 29 & Barry Rd) that is exactly what happened.
The great employees of (Parkville) First Student let their hearts guide them and came up with a very unique way to carry out the true meaning of giving this holiday season. They partnered with Niles Home; four area stores in the Northland were secured and a gift donation drive "Stuff the Bus" was born.
It gets better. On an unseasonably warm day in December, the drivers of Parkville First Student arrived in two buses to personally hand deliver donations of food, clothes, and presents for the children of Niles Home. To unload the donations, we formed a human chain of Niles Home and First Student employees stretching from the buses to the building.
It was a beautiful sight and gave the chldren an opportunity to see first hand what happens when human compassion meets action!
We are deeply struck by the genuine kindness and spirit of giving demonstrated by the Parkville First Student bus drivers and Northland community for all they have done!

We greatly appreciate the officials and guests taking time out of their busy schedules to attend the tour.

Niles Home for Children served as a rest stop for hundreds of Bike for the Brain cyclists. Niles Home youth prepared sandwiches and handed out water to cyclists. Niles Home staff and volunteers took the opportunity to tour cyclists through our fully bloomed and gorgeous on-site Organic Garden. Bike for the Brain (B4B) is an effort to raise public awareness that all people have the potential to recover from mental illnesses; and that these emotional, behavioral, and cognitive experiences are common to many people. Niles Home is a community partner and fortunate to also receive a grant from B4B.

The Friends of the Niles Home Auxiliary invites you to their annual yard sale this Saturday, September 17, 2011 from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Please see attached flyer for more details.
